Enabling Interpersonal Dynamic Capability: Four Emerging Collaborative Practices in Globally Distributed Software Development

Dynamic capabilities (DCs) are noted drivers of organizations’ competitive advantage in fast-changing, digitalizing operating environments. However, research has reached no consensus on the essence DCs, and focus shifted from managerial excellence to employee involvement participation. The interpersonal view DCs is suggested as crucial enabling change capacity. At same time, globally distributed work a common model today but often hindered by tensions collaborative challenges. In this qualitative single-case study, we explore practices DC software development (R&D). By semi-structured interviews with senior key informants northern European site case organization, inductive abductive analyses, practice perspective, identified four emerging nurturing organizational dynamism global work: dialogical development, constructive working culture, open engagement, facilitated shared learning. findings highlight role employees create new understanding influence generating R&D environment. Finally, paper proposes dynamic for evaluating such suggests stronger adoption perspective further study DCs.
